The purpose of transformational leadership is to change and transform people and organizations to higher levels of development. To accomplish that, transformational leaders articulate an emotionally captivating vision for the group that is engaging for subordinates who transcend their own individual needs for the benefit of the group, fostering the acceptance of shared goals and common aspirations. This change in priorities allows individuals to expand their needs and achieve personal growth.
The relationship between transformational leaders and their followers is characterized by followers’ intense emotional feelings about the leader, the acceptance of leaders’ values and beliefs, and the emotional attachment to the leader’s mission. These followers react with devotion, affection, admiration, and extraordinary esteem for their leaders. The basic elements of the transformational leadership process are inspirational leadership, role modeling, coaching and authenticity.
During the master class, we will discuss some of the best practices in each dimension and see some examples of exceptional leaders. Transformational leadership requires high levels of trust between leaders and followers. We will discuss how transformational leaders build trust and develop positive spirals of high performance that are sustainable. Finally, we will discover how leaders can become transformational leaders for their followers. Becoming a transformational leader is an inside-out process that requires high levels of self-awareness and self-management skills.
Developing your transformational leadership skills requires a strong commitment to your followers and being true to yourself, particularly when external demands and enticements make it all the most difficult. Yet, transformational leadership always pays off in the long term.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Juan-Carlos Pastor is a Professor of Organizational Behavior at the IE Business School. He was an Assistant Professor of Management Behavior at the Richard Ivey School of Business. He teaches courses on Organizational Behavior, Leadership, Coaching, Organizational Change and Managing People Skills. He earned a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and was a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University. He earned an M.A. in Social Psychology from Clark University and a BA in Psychology from the University Autonoma of Madrid.
His research interests include a social psychological approach to leadership that emphasizes the cognitions and social environments of both leaders and followers. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Leadership Quarterly and Journal of Environment and Behavior.
Juan Carlos Pastor has extensive experience in consultancy and training and development in the areas of Leadership, Coaching, Change Management and Teams. Some of the business organizations with which he has recently collaborated are Amadeus, Almirall, Banco Espirito Santo, Deustche Telekom, Mapfre, Skandia, Telefonica S.A., Pasha Holding, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Morgan Stanley, Banesto, URSA and Grupo Santander
